Willem Jonkers

I'm a street photographer living in the Rotterdam area. I just like photographing persons on the streets that otherwise probably won't be noticed or will be forgotten like most of us.

TBy photographing from a very close distance, I often get some kind of interaction with the subject(s).

Having these conversations with total strangers makes me happy and feel alive.

Street photography with a fisheye lens is challenging because you have to approach your subjects extremely close. Distances to the subjects range from 20cm to 40cm which is necessary to get the most out of the fish eye. The results, however, can be very dynamic. During an eighteen month period through 2014 and, I started using no other lens than this one and became one with it. This became an unintended project which gave me many publications and interviews all over the photography community on the internet.
